Bowen wins STLP State Championship

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) students showcased exceptional talent and innovation at the 30th Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) State Championship in Lexington, Kentucky, on Wednesday, March 27th. The day featured 560 projects from around Kentucky competing across K-5, 6-8, 9-12, and Technical divisions. One hundred twelve of those projects belonged to JCPS schools, setting a record for the representation by the state's largest district.

Bloom Elementary achieved 2nd place in the Technical category for their exemplary "Bloom Tech Team." Bloom students manage their schools' 1:1 program and troubleshoot technology issues for students and staff. Bloom also took home 2nd in the K-5 division with their project, "Creative Digital Arts Are For Everyone." The project saw students from across multiple grades submit digital art, infographics, and more in a schoolwide effort to bring creativity to all students at Bloom.

The crowd at Rupp Arena was buzzing when the Bees of Bowen Elementary secured 1st place in the K-5 division with their "Spanish Outreach" project, which aimed to integrate Spanish-speaking families into the school community. Bowen is only the 2nd JCPS elementary school in the history of the STLP State Championship. Blake Elementary won the award in 2020.

The event also featured live challenges in coding, website design, and robotics and awards for submissions in Creative Digital Arts (CDA) categories such as Digital Illustration and Animation. JCPS placed 1st or 2nd in 18 challenges and 25 CDA categories.
